India has being experiencing an unusual number of massive protests lately, resulting even in the shutting off of water supplies for Delhi for a few days. Many of these protests are about the rights of castes in India’s political system, something both historically, culturally, and politically complicated. This is a useful explanation for understanding some of the dynamics at play.
The Federated States of Micronesia are technically a sovereign country, but one that has had an agreement with the US for military protection (thus allowing the US to use the country as a military surveillance and staging base) since the end of WWII. Earlier than originally planned (meant to be discussed in 2023), Micronesia may be looking to change this situation and become entirely independent. What would this mean for Micronesia, the US, Pacific balances of power, and of course, China?
