Further crackdown in China

A letter surfaced recently, calling for the resignation of Xi Jinping, in a country whose already tight media controls are getting stricter, this is a big surprise. Xi’s response, a massive crackdown, perhaps shows some insecurity about support from his main support base, the CCP.

Now, a long-standing editor with a large southern Chinese newspaper has resigned following President Xi’s media tour last month extolling the virtues of a compliant media industry. The resignation letter included phrases like “after bowing for so long, I can’t stand it anymore” and “To the person responsible for monitoring my Weibo and notifying his superiors about what I should be made to delete: You can heave a sigh of relief.”
