Confiscation in Southern Africa

Unfortunately stories of large corporations taking away the property of those less fortunate and then not being held accountable are all too common. In what may be a new twist however, in Zimbabwe at least, many of the corporations responsible for these kinds of activities are not the name-brand multinationals familiar from the headlines, but rather domestic companies, operating with the government’s full backing. In that kind of case, even contests about legal jurisdiction regarding Zambian pollution and mining seem more likely to end in a just resolution than in Zimbabwe.
