Tensions on the Korean Peninsula

All sorts of military actions have been going on in and around the two Koreas for the last few months, and as a result tensions seem to be rising across the board. North Korea has been testing various kinds of missiles over the past few months, though only the most recent test seems to have seriously alarmed neighboring countries. South Korea and the US have agreed to install a missile defense shield in South Korea, raising China’s hackles and cooling that relationship. On the other hand, China is still not particularly happy with North Korea and no longer publicly backs to the regime, including by joining in the denunciations of the most recent missile tests.

It remains to be seen how this tangled web of relationships will play out, but the escalation of military equipment, including the shield, missile tests, more landmines, and probably more, does not bode particularly well.
