Turkey’s New Presidential Powers

Turkey is in the midst of voting substantially more power to the office of the President, an office that now looks likely to continue to be held by Erdogan for the foreseeable future. The parliamentary debate was not always the most mature, but the measures have passed and will now be put up for a popular vote: one Erdogan is unlikely to lose. Political fallout continues following the abortive coup last summer as Erdogan consolidates power through legal and less legal means.
